Letter to Prospective Employer

It is said that that three most stressful events in a lifetime for any one are - death of Spouse , Divorce and Job Change. Job change one would wonder.Well all those who have changed jobs, would vouch for the fact that they have had prolonged periods when they were doubtful about continuing. Well It sets me thinking , like reverse feedback  why not reverse resume from prospective employer to share information desired of them, which is generally not available in public domain. A Resume of Employer with minimum disclosures . Therefore I wrote down a draft of a letter.

It would be interesting to gauge reaction to a letter that may be written by prospective employee to his/her prospective employer. Reaction of employer HR head. Do you think the candidate would be shortlisted?

Dear Prospective Employer

I am excited after reading up the detailed job description that you have posted. I do believe that my profile & exposure fits the requirements of the role on offer. I am sharing my resume for your consideration. In case you need more information and / or clarifications, do let me know and I would be most happy to provide you that.

Indian Employees need Motivation Pill

Professionals from Medical fraternity should relax as “Motivation Pill” is not some illegal substance. This Pill has been in existence for pretty long though. We have Indian athletes are disadvantaged due to poor support, infrastructure & inadequate coaching still work hard with meagre resources to make it to the top of their game.  Indian entrepreneurs similarly, not supported by transparent policies & infrastructure support, still create successes.

Clearly this pill resolves some problems which are ailing most Indians working here, troubled and uncertain, stressed and engaged in unhealthy competition.

This pill initially helps in clarifying & improving thinking and focus. Over a prolonged period, subject to discipline it helps one stay fit mentally & emotionally leading to higher productivity.  The nature of treatment by “Motivation Pill “works at the root of the problem.  Like medicine, here again there has to be proper diagnostics, self-diagnosis. Any other person ( read boss) diagnosing for you is not really in the interest of employee, as it is too late by then (Read Performance Appraisal)

For self-diagnosis, Indian employees need to sense the force of discontent in them. Well post 2008, the world has changed atleast for some time now. Organizations have become leaner, focussed with eye on details. Perhaps this over-caution in approach has led to an environment which Indian employees have never experienced. It is impacting the cultures too which has far reaching and deep significance. Today you would meet, more than ever before, employees in 35+ age group who are wanting to go independent perhaps disillusioned by the fact that they have not made it to corner office and / or do not get the culture / environment to be creative and independent.

So first thing first , is it that today , more than ever , Indian employees are feeling frustration with things as they are... a feeling of powerlessness, anxiety, depression and lethargy. Do goals, aspirational or material, seem more distant, or unrealistic in current circumstances? . This discontent and dissatisfaction with things , as they are, inspires one to change & correct the situation. This discontent triggers the motivation to take action.

So if most Indian employee’s sense discontent & frustration creeping in it is time for a magic pill with essential ingredient of hope. Do not underestimate the therapeutic power of hope. The power of hope leads to motivation and action. Staying motivated is much easier when you enjoy what you are doing.

Experience suggests that when employees improve their skills and develop thinking capacity, they become more valuable to themselves and to others. That’s why organizations of value invest in training their employees to keep them motivated. Investment in yourself is an asset that will pay dividends throughout your life. In short, having useful skills will make you feel good about yourself!. So when your organization do not invest in your training and up skilling, do apportion a part of salary on self - development. Go out and attend programs.

Success is preceded by discontent. You’ll need "motivation" pill. It is not enough to just say, "I’m going to be successful" and expect it to happen. You have to be motivated enough to make things happen.
